Made to celebrate the South African Record label, founded by Israel Katz, Morris Fagen, with producer Cuthbert Matumba. Troubadour featured a mobile recording studio to record the music of the people, including Miriam Makeba, Dorothy Masuka, Dixie Kwankwa, Doris and Ruth Molifi, and Mary Thobei. Troubadour was absorbed by Gallo in 1969.
